So its been a while since I updated the blog, this is due to moving house and generally being loaded with work. Having said that the team (well mainly Dad and Simon have been very busy).
The tub has been de-rusted, welded (to be fair there was minimal amount of work here as we have one theory that the Jeep may of spend most of its working life in the states so was warm and dry), had the panels straightened (leaving a few dings to keep the authentic look of a 1943 military vehicle) rubbed back, chip guarded, under coated, under sealed and then top coat applied. Below is the picture diary of progress.
Scraping down the old Fuel tank. We then found out the tank was the wrong one!!!! Dang!!!!! |
New Floor in. The old one had been cut open (See earlier post pictures). Bars welded to keep the shape of the tub. |
The arse has gone!!!!! The back was removed as the older one was not original and had been dented beyond economic repair. |
Front of the tub during the rub down. Note rubbing of a tub is best done with a glass of red!!!! |
The Master at Work. Simon pondering!!!!! This was taken during the reshaping process of the rear wing. |
Lay out of the fuel tank padding. Just waiting on the right fuel tank to arrive!! |
Nice arse love!!!! The new rear has been mounted and welded into place |
Upside down. Rubbing and sorting out of the understand of the tub |
Another angel of the tub upside down |
Yest another angle. This shows that at one point the tub was yellow. |
Picture taken during a small repair to the box section which gives the tub its strength. |
Underside of the tub in bear metal before 1st layer of paint. |
Another angle of the shiny beast. It is hard to believe that this was build in 1943 and looks this good under all the paint layers we have taken off. |
Picutre taken after primer and undercoats. This is the 1st layer of top coat. |
Another angle of the 1st top coat |
Tub the right way up. New tank has arrived and we are busy making it fit! |
1st layer of top coat to the inside of the tub. Looking good |
Another angle during painting |
My 1st attempt of media blasting. Use the one at my work which is a little temperamental and slow. Whole thing took just under 2 hrs to complete after work. Dang!!! |
Both done and 4 hours of my life I wont get back... but well worth it! |
Engine leaving Dad's back to the work shop and to be fitted. |
As you can see a lot has been done and lots still left to do but it is looking more and more like a Jeep. There is a local military festival at the start of August which we were aiming to get the fully working Jeep to but I don't think that will happen. This is due to the house move and sailing commitments by Dad and I. Dad is still toying with the idea of taking it done as it is so people can see a project in progress but not sure.
